Harley-Davidson CVO Limited: A luxury cruiser for the highway

In 2014, Harley-Davidson had launched a flagship motorcycle, called the CVO Limited. The Customized Vehicle Operations Limited is a proper tourer from Harley-Davidson's special division that builds highly customized products. The bike has been customized to suit the rider's personal taste and comfort. And this touring motorcycle has been the staple of the CVO line since 2006. There are thousands of these bikes around and it proves to be a great cross-country tourer.

Packed neatly within the frame is a 1868cc, twin-cylinder engine that produces 92bhp and 165Nm of torque. The motor is liquid-cooled and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Harley-Davidson CVO Limited is BSIV-compliant.

This bike has a massive road presence, thanks to its bulk. It gets a large LED headlamp along with two fog lamps on either side, a large front fairing with a huge visor, a sculpted tank, Batwing fairing, shapely seats with a backrest for the pillion and a Tour-Pak top trunk. It definitely looks like a lot of bike for the money, given its intimidating stance. It also gets bullet turn signals, an engine drenched in chrome and a two-in-one dual chrome exhaust. It also gets colour co-ordinated saddle bags and adjustable seats.

It also features a 6.5-inch infotainment system with 75 watt four speaker audio system. It also sports four dials as part of the instrument cluster. In terms of dimensions, the CVO Limited is 2600mm in length, 1080mm in width and 1440mm in height. A Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 117 powerplant powers the bike, and happens to be the brand's largest production engine. It also gets a high-performance camshaft, intake and improved compression ratio.

The electronic throttle control is dialed, and the bike takes off without any delay. The bottom-end torque is evident. The top-end is strong too. There's plenty of power on tap and it reaches highway speeds very quickly. And the gearbox works quite smoothly. At 431kgs, the bike's weight is quite manageable. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 125mm, while the bike has a wheelbase of 1625mm and a seat height of 760mm.

The Harley-Davidson CVO Limited has a fuel tank capacity of 22.70 litres. In terms of mileage, the bike is capable of returning 15kmpl by ARAI, in BSIV guise.

Mechanical Parts

Thanks to the low seat height, you place your feet firmly on the ground, which is very helpful when balancing the bike, considering its weight. The handlebar is within good reach, and there's lots of space to stretch your limbs. And your back is an upright posture the whole time. Thanks to the relaxed riding posture, riding the bike was easy.

The seat is perhaps one of the most comfortable you will ever sit on. The bike turns into corners well, despite its big fork-mounted fairing. And the bike remains glued to the tarmac. The bike is also very agile and surprisingly light. The brakes have a strong bite and get the job of stopping the bike done. At the front, the bike rides on dual bending valve suspension, while the rear gets a hand adjustable preload shock-absorber.

As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a gloss black and contrast black anodize Tomahawk frame. The CVO Limited runs on 130/80 B-17 tyres at the front and 180/65 B-16 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by disc brakes at the front and at the rear.

The bike comes loaded with a slew of features like an analogue and digital instrument cluster, digital trip meter, dual control heated seats, a 6.5-inch infotainment system, adjustable seats and handlebar.

The Harley-Davidson CVO Limited is available in two shades like Burgundy Cherry Sunglo Fade and Black Earth Fade. Black Earth Fade is certainly a colour that is bound to be a favourite among young riders.
